Journals and Publications: What's the Difference?

 

Articles in scholarly journals are written by experts in the field and undergo a rigorous review process before being published. Scholarly journals are also called peer-reviewed journals.

Publications that aren't scholarly journals include trade publications, magazines, newspapers, industry reports, etc. These publications may be written by journalists or subject experts. These publications contain current news articles, reports, analyses, editorials, etc. 

When using the journal search feature to search for journals and publications to which the library subscribes, you'll see this this icon next to scholarly journals so that you can tell the difference between scholarly journals and other publications:
